Disney cruise line has two (2) ships that sail mainly from Port Canaveral, Florida (that's the east coast of the US) and they go to the Bahamas and Caribbean. It is very rare when Disney does a cruise outside its normal cruise area. Disney has ordered a new ship and the dates that are being offered for Alaska cruises are April through September of the year 2011. So if your trip is not until 2011 you have time to reserve with Disney. But since Disney has only one ship doing Alaska the price will most certainly be higher than with all of the other lines like Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Carnival and Princess. All of these other cruise lines have many ships and travel dates and their prices will be better and you will have many more options for travel dates. With pre-teen kids I suggest cruising on Carnival or Royal Caribbean instead. Both of these lines have free kids programs and areas of the ship specifically for kids.
References :
experienced cruiser
